Volkswagen announced on February 10, 2010 the introduction of the second generation Touareg.
The medium size SUV comes with a completely redesigned body work, achieving a 5 percent increase in torsional rigidity and being some 208 kg (458 lbs) lighter than the first generation model. The new Touareg sports a restyled front and rear fascia, in trend with the company’s contemporary design language. The interior was completely redone, with the focus on improving the quality of materials and comfort levels. VW claim their second generation Touareg achieves an improved fuel economy over its predecessor of up to 20 percent, while also introducing a newly developed hybrid version. The new Touareg comes with a lowered center of gravity for better handling and a lower aerodynamic coefficient. A new 8-speed automatic gearbox is now fitted as standard with the second generation Touareg.
